The comprehensive mapping, with resolutions of up to five meters, will help the country plan future missions to the moon.

ISRO Chairman G. Madhavan Nair announced that the Chandrayaan has sent more than 40,000 images to the base station in the last two months.

These images are currently being analyzed and will undoubtedly prove invaluable to the scientific community. The ISRO chief said that while there were many lunar missions in the past, none of them has been able to provide comprehensive data in the form of images so detailed.

The Chandrayaan has been able to capture images of the lunar surface and get a complete picture of the moon with resolutions of up to five meters. Compare this with earlier missions, which capture images with a 100-meter resolution and that too of a very limited area.

The images from the mission will be used to study the composition of the lunar surface and to learn in detail the mineral composition of the moon. The comprehensive mapping will also help the country plan future missions to the moon, he said.

The chairman, speaking during an event, added that ISRO is blazing all guns and expects the country to execute its first manned moon mission by 2015!

我承认我很笨,看不懂A3想干什么??没有无人飞船试验就直接上???还有那个三级半入轨,太雷了,不怕麻烦。

The success of Chandrayaan-I has sent ISRO scientists into orbit, giving them confidence that they will be able to put a man on the moon by 2020. Speaking separately in Raipur (Chhatisgarh) and Salem (Tamil Nadu), Mahadevan Nair, chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation, and  M Annadurai, project director for Chandrayaan-I, have both affirmed that a manned moon mission is very much on the cards.

Annadurai told the press on Sunday that Chandrayaan-II would be launched in a couple of years, followed by Chandrayaan-III, which will be manned. Several countries have approached India to set up a common lunar research centre, he added.

Chandrayaan-II is likely to be launched by the end of 2009 or early 2010. It will include a wheeled rover capable of picking up soil or rock samples for on site chemical analysis, which the orbiting vehicle will transmit to earth. The launch vehicle would be the GSLV (global satellite launch vehicle).

This will be followed by the manned mission, Chandrayaan-III.

MUMBAI: Forty thousand and counting. The Rs 386-crore Indian Moon mission, Chandrayaan-1, which completes a flawless 100 days around January 30 has transmitted more than 40,000 images of different types since its launch on October 22, 2008, which many in ISRO believe is quite a record compared to the lunar flights of other nations.

ISRO officials estimated that if more than 40,000 images have been transmitted by Chandrayaan's cameras in 75 days, it worked out to nearly 535 images being sent daily. They are first transmitted to Indian Deep Space Network at Byalalu near Bangalore, from where they are flashed to ISRO's telemetry, tracking and command network at Bangalore.

They said some of these images have a resolution of up to five metres providing a sharp and clear picture of the Moon's surface. On the other hand, they said many images sent by some of the other missions had a 100-metre resolution.

On November 26, the indigenous Terrain Mapping Camera, which was first activated on October 29, 2008, took shots of peaks along with craters. This came as a surprise to ISRO officials because the Moon consists largely only of craters.

Buoyed by the success of Chandrayaan-1, ISRO is now planning a more ambitious lunar venture around 2020 after the Chandrayaan-2 in 2012: a manned mission. This was stated by none other than the man behind India's maiden lunar mission, Mylswamy Annadurai, Chandrayaan-1's project director, while speaking to TOI recently.

Annadurai said around 2015, ISRO is embarking on a manned mission to the low earth orbit, which is 2000 km above the Earth. "An Indian on the Moon is, therefore, certainly the next logical step and ISRO is definitely considering it,'' he said.

On November 14, India's first spaceman Rakesh Sharma said the landing of the indigenous 29-kg Moon Impact Probe on the lunar surface was the first step towards establishing the capabilities for a subsequent human flight to the Moon by India, the probe was one of the 11 scientific payloads on Chandrayaan-1.

They cited the case of China and Japan which are working on a manned mission to the Moon around 2020 apart from the US. "Keeping this in view can India lag behind in this human race to the Moon?'' a space expert from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research requesting anonymity asked.

With regards to Chandrayaan-1, a meeting of all the principal investigators of the different scientific experiments is being held in Bangalore on January 29 to review the preliminary results.

Chennai, Jan 17 (PTI)ISRO has begun working on the Rs 425-crore second unmanned moon mission to be launched by early 2012following the success of Chandrayaan-I, a top ISRO official said here on Saturday.

Chandrayaan-II will focus on soil and mineral exploration on the lunar surface with the help of a robotic device and send back data, Chandrayaan Project Director Mayilsamy Annadurai told reporters here.

The work had begun on the project and it was likely to be launched by end of 2011 or early 2012, he said. ISRO plans to send a manned flight to space in 2015 and the manned mission to the moon in 2020, he added.

About Chandrayaan-I, he said it has beamed 40,000 pictures since its launch.

The stakeholders of the project would meet soon to discuss the information beamed by India's successful lunar mission, Annadurai said.

CHENNAI: Following the footsteps of former President and scientist A P J Abdul Kalam, Mayilsami Annadurai, director of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), on Sunday interacted with school students on various aspects of space science, importance of space programmes and ambitions. He addressed the CBSE and State Board students separately at Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan and Madras Christian Higher Secondary School respectively.

Predicting that an Indian would be put on the moon by 2020, the project director of India’s first mission to moon patiently explained to the students all about Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2. He made the students understand with immense interest and involvement why it was important to explore the moon.

The Q and A session was a dream come true for many, as the auditorium kept buzzing with questions from excited students. A calm and composed Annadurai embarked on each question with the eloquence of Kalam. On being asked whether he was following Kalam, Annadurai nodded with a smile and remarked, “Yes, I am following his footsteps, very much.”

There is a pre-Chandrayaan and post-Chandrayaan India, he noted. School students today are well equipped to handle technology and, post-Chandrayaan, there has been a positive change in the attitude of parents and children alike.

He told the students to take the advice from their parents and teachers seriously. He talked about how his father wanted him to study literature and named him Annadurai too, but he had stood by his choice and proved that he was successful.

Chandrayaan may dock into school syllabus

If the proposal by Mayilsami Annadurai, director of the Indian Space Research organisation (ISRO), to make India’s moon mission a part of the school syllabus comes true, Chandrayaan I will grace the pages of school textbooks in TN in the near future.

The Kerala Government has already requested for such an inclusion, Annadurai said, during his interaction with school students here on Monday. Lessons on Chandrayaan will explain every aspect of the moon mission in detail, he added.

“All the practical aspects of the launch of Chandrayaan I, from what went in to the configuration of Chandrayaan, to the problems accompanying it, should be known to every student,” said Annadurai.

Vidya Srinivasan, studying in Class IX at a CBSE school in the city, said, “ I am very interested in astronomy. Such a move will help in providing practical knowledge on the subject.” Her friend Srinidhi Rajagopalan remarks,” If such a thing happens, understanding Chandrayaan will no longer be rocket science.”

In a Q and A session with the students, the moon boss admitted that the school curriculum badly needed a revamp to make it more practical. Reminiscing his student days, he said they had more opportunity to experiment with and explore nature.

Bangalore: India plans to develop a space vehicle that can carry up to three astronauts in the seven-day manned mission to space, Indian Space Research Organization chairman G. Madhavan Nair said on Monday.

“Concept is getting evolved,” Nair, also secretary in the Department of Space, said while addressing an international seminar.

Isro is looking at developing a capsule (spacecraft) with service module which can accommodate three astronauts and take it to lower earth orbit using the indigenous GSLV (Geo-Synchronous Launch Vehicle) in the year 2015, he said.

Mission duration is seven days. There would also be emergency mission abort and crew rescue provisions in case of necessity. Crew module would be designed for re-entry and service module for mission management, Nair said.

He said the GSLV-Mk III, which can launch four tonne class satellites, would bring down the launch cost by half. The maiden flight of GSLV-Mk III is slated for next year.

On the recent Chandrayaan-1 moon mission, Nair said instruments on board have thrown up voluminous data which would take a few years for scientists to analyse and come out with concrete results.

Entire mapping of the lunar surface is expected to be carried out in a year’s time, he said, adding, there is no trace of water on moon so far.

三人七天,技术指标和神舟一致,飞船应该还是类似联盟号的三舱结构,否则面临返回舱超重的难题。GSLV-Mk III的运载能力够了,可靠性难说。2015年发射无人飞船上天还行,至于载人飞船嘛还是慎重点吧。

两舱结构,用GSLVmk2发射,返回舱重约3吨,气动外形与dragon类似(这也许是现在最流行的,ESA和RSA的下一代飞船也将采用这种外形)

GSLVmk2近地轨道运载能力5吨,发射两舱飞船不会太大,返回舱3吨,推进舱2吨,在轨时间可以与神舟相比,但缺了轨道舱,三名航天员在狭小的返回舱里面能鼓捣什么?是纯粹载人的设计,没有空间站的支持,难成大器。
好歹印度这次提出的方案不太冒进,还算现实可行。

选MK2,估计就是这个两舱版本,没有更大的运力提供更多的空间;选MK3估计就是3仓版本了,又毛子成熟的联盟为基础,可靠同时进度有保证,但是MK3到底怎么样不好说,还没有首飞过. 就看A3到底怎么选了.

    1月3日,ISRO主席奈尔在印度科学大会上宣布,在印度的首个载人任务中,这个自主研发的重3吨的太空舱将携带两名乘员,在400千米的高空运行7天以上。印度的首个太空舱设计能够携带3名乘员,它的升级型还将装备交会对接能力。

    ISRO发言人1月10日表示,该计划预计耗资1000亿卢比(20亿美元),追溯到2007年共需要8年的时间。虽然整个任务的经费还未获批,但是该发言人表示初步工作已经开始,启动经费为9.5亿卢比(1940万美元)。这笔经费来自于ISRO 2007年-2008年407亿卢比(8.34亿美元)的预算。

    必要的任务设施包括在ISRO 萨迪什•达万航天中心建造一个新的发射台,另外还将在班加罗尔建造一个宇航员训练中心。

    这个载人太空舱将搭乘ISRO的地球同步卫星运载火箭(GSLV)的改良型号——GSLV -2发射。GSLV -2火箭目前仍处于研发阶段,它的特点在于携有一台本土研发的低温上面级发动机,而GSLV-1使用的是俄罗斯的上面级。GSLV-2运载火箭计划于2009年进行首次试飞。

    在开展载人航天之前,印度已有一些技术积累。2007年1月,ISRO发射并回收了一个重550千克的太空舱,这验证了印度具备大气再入所必需的耐热材料的研发能力。印度还在2008年发射了名为“月球初航”的月球探测器,并顺利进入月球轨道。但是,还有几种关键能力未被研发,包括安全性和可靠性增强的载人运载火箭、生命支持系统、营救和返回系统、机器人操作器以及新任务管理和控制系统。

     ISRO的载人ISRO的载人航天项目将得益于俄罗斯联邦航天局的帮助。两国的合作将基于印俄2008年5月签署的协议。依据协议,印度宇航员将在2015年印度首个载人任务之前,于2013年搭乘俄罗斯“联盟”飞船进入太空。俄罗斯还将帮助印度进行宇航预案挑选及训练,以及ISRO轨道航天器的建造。

    俄罗斯与印度在太空方面的合作有着悠远的历史。1984年,拉卡什•沙玛搭乘“联盟”飞船进入前苏联的“礼炮”空间站,成为印度首个太空人。
