In Littleton, Colorado, Lockheed Martin has completed the construction of a full-scale mockup of NASA’s new crew-rated spacecraft, Orion. This Orion crew module and adapter full-scale mockup was transferred to the Orion Test Lab (OTL ) on May 13, 2015, so that it can be used to prepare Orion for its second flight into the black on Exploration Mission 1.
EM-1 is currently scheduled to take place in November of 2018 and will be the first flight of NASA’s new super heavy-lift booster, the Space Launch System or “SLS”. This will not be Orion’s first flight, however, as the spacecraft was launched atop a United Launch Alliance Delta IV Heavy booster in December of 2014.


A mockup of NASA's Orion spacecraft, which will be used to prepare for the 2018 Exploration Mission 1, has finished being constructed by Lockheed Martin.

The EM-1 mission will send an unmanned Orion space capsule around the moon and back to Earth; at some point between the Earth and the Moon the three spacecraft will be deployed and proceed on their own.
The three spacecraft have very different missions, but are based on common hardware which cuts development costs immensely. “Lunar Flashlight” will deploy an 80m2 solar sail, use the sail to maneuver itself into polar orbit around the moon, and will then slew the sail like a mirror to reflect sunlight into deep polar craters that are in permanent darkness. It is believed that these craters hold a significant amount of water ice, deposited by passing comets over billions of years. The reflected sunlight will be analyzed by onboard instruments to see what’s down there. The second mission, “NEA Scout”, will also deploy a solar sail. It will use it to slingshot past the moon, and attempt to rendezvous with a near-earth asteroid (NEA). The final mission, “BioSentinel”, will also fly by the moon, and perform long-term testing of biological samples in the high radiation of deep space. This information will be valuable to researchers planning to send humans to Mars.

Under this NASA NextSTEP program, Morehead State University and its partners, the Busek Company (Natick MA), NASA Goddard Spaceflight Center (GSFC in Greenbelt MD), and the Catholic University of America (CUA), will develop and build a 6U CubeSat designed to prospect for water ice and other lunar volatiles from a low-perigee lunar orbit flying only 100 km (62 miles) above the lunar surface. The Lunar IceCube will be deployed during lunar trajectory by the SLS (which will be the most powerful rocket ever built) and use an innovative RF Ion engine to achieve lunar capture and the science orbit to allow the team to make systematic measurements of lunar water features.  The science goals are to investigate the distribution of water and other volatiles, as a function of time of day, latitude, and regolith composition/mineralogy.
IceCube will include a version of the Broadband InfraRed Compact High Resolution Exploration Spectrometer (BIRCHES) instrument, developed by NASA GSFC. BIRCHES is a compact version of the successful volatile-seeking spectrometer instrument on the New Horizons mission that is currently approaching Pluto.

根据NSF最新消息这次任务2018年完成后,下一次载人发射已经被推迟到了无敌的2024年,也就是说orion飞船在2024年才能第3次发射,也是第一次载人发射,我看人类飞出地球指望不上NASA了OMG

据NASA网站201542日报道,美国国家航空航天局(NASA)的新一代火箭航天发射系统SLS)的首次探索任务(EM-1)将完成多项重大任务,不仅要测试SLS的性能、SLS火箭与猎户座飞船的融合度,还将利用其强大的运载能力搭载11枚小卫星,以便在低地轨道之远开展科学实验。
  首次非载人飞行试验中,SLS火箭将把猎户座飞船发射至绕月逆行轨道。11枚独立的小卫星被装配在连接猎户座飞船和SLS顶端推进级的适配器内,每枚约有一个大鞋盒大小。适配器圆环上的阀门采用的是弹簧结构,没有采用烟火装置。
  这些小卫星以高效多能为其设计宗旨。总质量不超过14千克,不需要耗费火箭的额外推力,降低了深空探索科研的成本。
  逃离地球引力约10分钟后,猎户座飞船将与其服务舱分离,此后猎户座飞船将继续向月球进发。当猎户座飞船飞至安全距离之外,就可以根据任务需要在不同的时间部署小行星了。

ESA的服务舱将在“pLum Brook"测试,一直持续到明年。乘员舱在到KSC之前,也要在"紫溪?”测试。

These test structures will be put through their paces deep into next year, prior to heading to Lockheed Martin’s facility in Sunnyvale, California for additional testing. Should all the testing prove to be successful, the EM-1 Service Module will be flown into KSC in January of 2017 for integration with the EM-1 Orion inside the Operations & Checkout (O&C) building, following a similar path to the EFT-1 flow. However, rather than heading out to mating with its launch vehicle, the entire EM-1 spacecraft will then be shipped to Plum Brook Station for environmental testing that qualifies the vehicle for flight, and only then will it be returned to Kennedy for launch processing. That will mark the launch processing flow, as the day approaches for the mating of the Orion stack with the SLS inside the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB).

As reported by Orbital ATK, “Production has already started for the EM-1 test flight.

“Motor hardware began processing June of this year in Utah. Booster small parts processing will begin at KSC within the next few weeks.”

As such, Orbital ATK is on track to support not only the first test flight of SLS in three years, but also the continued operation of SLS into the 2030s and beyond.

In October 2015, the Ground System Development and Operations (GSDO) team kicked off their own CDR for all of the ground support equipment and operations that will be needed to support the SLS Program.

Following SRB stacking, the HEO (Human Exploration and Operations) and Exploration Systems Development (ESD) divisions will convene their Integration Review to finalize all integration operations of the SLS.
