Iran to send animals into space

02/ 12/ 2008

TEHRAN, December 2 (RIA Novosti) - Iran plans to send exploratory rockets into space with live animals on board, paving the way for manned space flights, a space research official said on Tuesday.

Mohammad Ebrahimi, deputy head of Iran's Aerospace Research Institute, said Iran plans to send Kavoshgar (Explorer) 3 and 4 rockets into space in the near future.

The Kavoshgar 2 was successfully launched on Wednesday. The rocket consisted of a carrier, space-lab and restoration system.

Ebrahimi said the rocket analyzed air pressure and wind speed, and conducted astronomical tests at altitudes of 50 to 200 km.

The Kavoshgar 2 is a two-stage solid fuel rocket capable of carrying a small payload and reentering the lower atmosphere with a high degree of accuracy. Iran insists that its space program has no military goals.

Iran's Project to Send Man into Space Seems Promising

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's Space Agency and academic centers are working on a ten-year plan to send man into space, a senior Iranian space official said on Saturday.

ISA Head Reza Taghipour told the Iranian students news agency that different aspects will be examined in this project, including life in space and changes in human body in high speed spacecrafts.

In addition, some famous Iranian universities, including Amirkabir, Elmosanat and Sanatisharif, are working on building remote sensing satellites capable of studying meteorology, pooling information about the earth surface, monitoring forest conditions and managing natural resources, Taghipour said, and pointed out that Iran expects to see the outcomes of the project within the next three years.

There is no doubt that Iran would launch remote sensing satellites into orbit by 2011, but the type of satellite has not been clarified yet, Taghipour expressed.

Iran put its first communications satellite, Omid (Hope), into a low earth orbit on 2 February. The research satellite, which contains communications and digital equipment, was carried into orbit by a domestically-made launch vehicle, Safir (Messenger).

With the launch, Iran became the eighth country in the world able to independently put satellites into space, after Russia, the US, France, China, India, Japan, and Israel.

Russians Say ‘Nyet’ To Another Iranian Satellite

By Sharon Weinberger  June 25, 2009  |  10:56 am

PARIS — A senior Russian official said that despite interest from the Iranian government, his country has no current plans to help Tehran launch another satellite.

While Iran’s government has been trying to flex its military muscle by announcing an aerial exercise in the midst of a domestic crackdown, Russia apparently isn’t playing along, at least on Iran’s space ambitions. Anatoly Perminov, head of the Russian Federal Space Agency, said Russia isn’t anywhere near an agreement to help Iran launch a new satellite.

Perminov even seemed to mocked Tehran’s amateurish planning.

“I’ve had a number of meetings with various Iranian ambassadors—I’m saying ambassadors because they change very, very frequently,” Perminov told reporters at a press briefing at the Paris Air Show last week. “They were asking me different questions, and they were making proposals; I didn’t understand what they meant, and speaking honestly, I didn’t find any reasonable feasible aspects in their questions.”

In 2005, Russian launched an Iranian spy satellite, Sina-1, into orbit, allowing Iran to join the over 40 other countries that operate satellites. In 2009, Iran conducted its own launch, placing a second satellite into low Earth orbit. Though the second, smaller satellite was regarded as largely symbolic, the launch was significant in demonstrating Iran’s improving ballistic missile capabilities.

While Iran is eager to demonstrate its indigenous launch capabilities, it has been in talks with Russia for help on launching another satellite. And Perminov, for his part, insisted the meetings were all at Iran’s request.

But, he added, “no work is being done on a second Iranian satellite.”

Iran plans to send astronauts into space

TEHRAN, Oct. 3 (MNA) -- Iran plans to send astronauts into space and is currently conducting the relevant studies, Communications and Information Technology Minister Reza Taqipour announced on Saturday.

“This project is currently under study and… (we) hope to be able to implement the project in the near future,” Taqipour said at a ceremony held to inaugurate World Space Week.

It is essential to adopt national strategies in order to successfully implement the project, he added.

He also explained the current status of the Mesbah satellite project and commented on the unsuccessful launch of a Mesbah satellite from a spaceport in a foreign country in 2005.

“One of our problems in the past was that (we) were not self-reliant in space technology. The Mesbah satellite project was undertaken in cooperation with foreign countries and we did not succeed in launching it,” he said.

However, Iran plans to launch the satellite from a launch pad inside the country in the near future, he stated.

The date of the satellite launch will be announced after a series of research projects are conducted, he added.

In February 2003, Iran and Italy agreed to cooperate in the construction and launch of the Mesbah satellite. At that time, the first phase of the project, which resulted in the construction of a laboratory model of the satellite, had been completed. The Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology and the Italy’s Carlo Gavazzi Space company were joint partners in the project.

Iran also launched its first domestically manufactured satellite, which was named Omid (hope), into orbit on February 2, using a modified domestically manufactured long-range missile.

The satellite was designed to circle the earth 15 times every 24 hours and to send reports to Iran’s space center. It broadcast over two frequency bands and had eight antennas for transmitting data.

Taqipour announced on May 1 that the Omid satellite probably entered the atmosphere around South America.

The satellite accomplished its mission and entered the Earth’s atmosphere as it lost altitude, he added.

Iran to Send Bio-Capsule to Space in 2 Years

2009-10-06

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran announced on Tuesday that it aims to send its first bio-capsule carrying a living creature to the outer space within the next two years.

"To carry out research studies, we will launch a bio-capsule containing a living creature to the space," Head of Iran's Aerospace Center Mohsen Bahrami told reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony marking the 'Space Week' in Tehran today.

Noting that the bio-capsule will be tasked with carrying out different studies in the space, Bahrami stressed that the study plans for the project have begun.

Earlier today, Iran's Aerospace Research Center also declared that it would launch its third research rocket called Kavoshgar (Explorer) into space by the end of March 2010.

"The third Iranian Kavoshgar rocket will be sent into the space by the end of the current (Iranian) year (ending on March 20) to do research studies," Mohammad Ebrahimi, 'Kavoshgar Project' Manager, said at the same ceremony in Tehran.

Iran launched its first research rocket on Feb. 4 when it also announced activity of its first space center and its first indigenous satellite - called Omid, or Hope.

Pointing out that Kavoshgar 3 rockets can be employed in different researches and tests, Ebrahimi reiterated the rockets can be sent to altitudes between 50 and 150 km in height which, he said, is a no fly zone for aircrafts and satellites.

Iran's Kavoshgar 2 was successfully launched in December 2008. The rocket consisted of a carrier, space-lab and restoration system.

The rocket analyzed air pressure and wind speed, and conducted astronomical tests at altitudes of 50 to 200 km (30 to 125 miles).

Kavoshgar 2 was a two-stage solid fuel rocket capable of carrying a small payload and reentering the lower atmosphere with a high degree of accuracy.

Iran has long declared the goal of developing a space program. The country's space program, like the nuclear power program, has provoked unease for those opposing Iran's progress and prosperity.

Iran's Kavoshgar I(探索者1号) rocket

Iran is planning to send another research satellite into space by late March, the country's Aerospace Research Institute announced.

According to Mohammad Ebrahimi, an official at the institute, the Kavoshgar III (Explorer 3) will be launched into space to carry out research and study spatial subsystems, ISNA reported on Tuesday.

In November 2008, Iran sent into orbit the Kavoshgar II, which featured carrier and space-lab systems. It parachuted back to Earth after successfully completing its mission.

Earlier in the same year, the Kavoshgar I suborbital sounding rocket was launched to gather meteorological data.

Meanwhile, the director of Iran's Aerospace Research Institute, Mohsen Bahrami, said that Iran was also planning to send animals into space within the next two years.

Bahrami said the animals would be sent into space aboard Kavoshgars, which would act as a test for the country's plan to launch a manned space mission.
